Working remotely requires connection. Not just in terms of technology, but also between people. In fact, it requires a connection between both technology and people. We strive to make that connection as strong as possible, and our business consultants are fully committed to this goal—including our colleague Harald Görtz, who shares his story with us.
In early 2020, Harald joined IMAGEM a business consultant. He was already familiar with the company, as he had used its technology at a previous employer. However, his experience with geospatial technology goes back even further: “I was first introduced to geospatial information during my studies. Soon after, I found myself working in the GIS sector at various companies.”
After a joint project with the Ministry of Defense, IMAGEM his former employer, Harald noticed how projects were handled here. After a cup of coffee and a good conversation with CEO Wouter Brokx, he decided to take the plunge. “The idea that you’re focused on creating and gathering effective solutions rather than just racking up hours was the deciding factor for me. It’s the freedom and innovation that IMAGEM offers that drew me here. Being able to work with a number of former colleagues again, such as Niels van de Graaf, really sealed the deal.”
“Within the team, you’ll focus on a specific market, such as defense, water authorities, or municipalities. As a team, we share a common vision for the year and our goals, but as a business consultant, you’ll have the freedom to shape how those goals are achieved within your market. Of course, you’ll want to ensure that the products are used effectively in your market; there’s no strict oversight, but rather a focus on freedom. Of course, you’ll collaborate with colleagues when necessary.”
Spontaneity
Harald was very impressed by the 3D capabilities in Luciad he IMAGEM . “I’m currently working with those features on projects for various clients. It’s cool to create 3D solutions right in the browser.” He also enjoys demonstrating what you can do with data in ERDAS , both at client sites and in one of his well-known blogs. “It’s a comprehensive package with many capabilities. With a little raster and vector data, you can perform so many tasks and combine themes, such as climate adaptation. You can then visualize that in a digital twin, which doesn’t necessarily have to be a super-realistic 3D model.” Harald often uses open data for this, which allows him to generate a lot of insight for the client.
After two years, Harald is still enjoying his role as a business consultant. He speaks highly of the positive and open atmosphere he experiences here, as well as the camaraderie among colleagues. “We help each other, give feedback, and you can call each other if you need help, without having to go through a lot of red tape. But it’s also the spontaneity—colleagues come to you to offer help.” Harald also enjoys seeing how IMAGEM and making a big impact for a company of its size. And he believes that’s partly due to the freedom and entrepreneurial spirit employees are given here.
Show who you are
Harald has learned a lot in the meantime. In addition to teaching himself ERDAS and other techniques, he’s also learning from the company’s philosophy. “As a team, you can tell that we enjoy delivering great projects. We don’t just sell software or pass boxes along. We have in-house software and expertise, and we use that to address market challenges such as climate adaptation, public order and safety, and asset management. This allows for a high degree of personal input within the company. You can share ideas with others and vice versa. It’s great that you can showcase your knowledge and skills here.”
He highly recommends working here as a business consultant, citing the freedom and creativity in the work as his main reasons. He also notes that interactions with colleagues and clients are always pleasant. He sees his role as a healthy mix of execution and initiative. “The responsibility you have is really nice. The management structure is flat; sure, there are managers, but ultimately you work together. With IMAGEM ’s support, you IMAGEM the freedom to shape your own work.”
To find the perfect location solutions for clients such as municipalities and other local governments, clear communication is essential. Are you the bridge between business and technology who can help clients move forward with care and expertise?
